more SNES homebrew daydreaming i've been doing on-and-off for a while:
did you know the SNES sound chip can do FM synthesis?
basically nobody did this during its commercial heyday but you can have the waveform output of a (silent) sound channel modulate the pitch of the next one up
since the SNES sound chip is sample-based you can use absolutely any waveforms you like and if you want you can also chain every available channel into a single 8-op FM voice (but with only one algorithm available)
