@Felthry I love this because this is semi canon? The nanite cluster gets destabilised in certain circumstances, such as extreme temperature or spontaneous code errors caused by stress. While this doesn't sound good, sometimes the effects can be benign enough that all that happens is that it breaks into smaller sub-clusters each functioning as if they were the core one, but still as a coherent singular entity in goals.
This is also possible just for funsies. :3
