I gotta say, Brutal Doom is a heck of a thing and really fun and interesting and REALLY changes up the Doom gameplay to be more tactical and fun (if more challenging), but ... there's something really nice about playing Doom in a Super Mario 64 themed world where you gotta explore and find coins and platform a lot and... aaaa.

It's a little barebones in the first one, but apparently the second is even better. Can't wait :D

Mornin, I'm up early because I forgot to take the recycling bin out to the road last night for bin collection, but I remembered just before I actually passed out for sleep so set an early alarm and actually got up and did it so yay me

time to play Doom : The Golden Souls because heck yeah mario style platforming in FPS Doom engine

@LANthus I just looked up Betray as well and oh my fuck it's even worse than Hexsoil holy shit lol

not only is the parody actually still a shitty map just like Betray that jumps you into a MASSIVE end game difficulty spike before you've got any decent weapons if you find it legit, but it's also still actually a better map than the thing it's parodying ahhahaha

so I decided to stop playing serious dooms, and started playing some more silly ones.

And some more awesome ones

Like... the Castlevania mod for doom which is just... absolutely bloody spectacular oh my GOD. Not even kidding, if you got GZDoom go get yourself castlevania simon's destiny it's... it's really excellent.

also Golden Souls 1 is so far really fun and amazing and charming. Looking forward to the Woolball games too!

@LANthus lol though Betray wasn't actually made by iD if I recall it was made by some guy from Vicarious Visions who worked on the doom 3 ports.

@LANthus I actually finally do get it lol. The more I play of Hexsoil the more I realise how it's a parody and... I hate it, I hate this level so much because it's so awful but daaang I'm giggling at just how it's like "lol fuck Betray it's a shit map let's make a really shit map and just shoehorn it in there as a super secret that you've almost no chance of finding"

hell it even fuckin' CRASHES THE GAME on certain sourceports.

@LANthus Probably yeah. I also take it back, Hexsoil isn't a good map it's fuckin garbage XD huge open areas with ugly textures that do not at all make sense, corridoors you have to navigate full of enemies, barely any ammo, just... fucking enemies everywhere with nowhere to hide and really goddamn big as well. ugh. XD

why and how is Hexsoil a parody of Betray?? ... I'm talking about Doom 2 The Way id Did of course, and how the easter egg map Hexsoil is apparently a parody of the Xbox original bonus map of Betray from its Doom 2 port.

I mean, looking at the map of Hexsoil, it looks pretty regular. Betray looks... ....

...well it looks like something I would have created in the original doom level editor.

...apparently also there's a name for this style of map: 1994 map.

@owashii@snouts.online (which of course lessens the chance of sheep suffering from injury due to trampling as they try and flee or getting distressed and even MORE nervous and miscarrying and such, and it's just... super nice that the alpaca just... take no shit and protect their smol friembs. and the sheep are just like "holy shit these tall sheep are BADASS, I feel so safe!")

@owashii@snouts.online (realtalk I think it's really fucking adorable that if you put a couple (two to three) alpaca in a flock of sheep the sheep are just like "...oh cool there's these big weird long sheep around and they're really nice and chill" and the alpaca are like "oh cool this flock of nervous small compact alpaca are kinda cute and nice, we three should look after them", and then when predators hassle the sheep the alpaca are all "GET SOOOMEEE" and fend them off, and the sheep remain very chill)

@owashii@snouts.online excellent. this will distract them all from the fact that the REAL ones in power are a flock of sheep and a couple alpaca.
