oh dang I just found out that the Doomsday mod was made by a girl. :o that's rad. We have a girl to thank for the sourceport for Hexen and Heretic :D

why is every sci-fi spaceship mechanic like a car mechanic when cars are just "replace this part with the same or similar part or else your car will be fucky" when it'd be way cooler if they were like PC builders where it's just fuckin "yeah i ripped out half the internals and took a dremel tool to the casing so i could assemble a ridiculous cooling loop out of 30 parts that weren't designed for it and now it runs 3% cooler" while everyone looks at it like it's about to explode

who the fuck let us brits have an empire when we created something we unironically call Zebra, Puffin or Pelican crossings, despite there being no resemblance to any of those animals in them, except MAYBE, TENTATIVELY, that the zebra crossing has black and white stripes.

...

that aren't zebra-like at all.

(image description for the link I posted:)
a black and white photo of what would probably be called a "zebra crossing" in the UK, it seems, with water pooled around one side. Two people are walking through it, one in sandals and cut off trousers/jeans with ankles bare, one in jeans and either smart shoes or boots. The shot is taken as water is splashing up from their steps heavily.

Red text displays "BIE" as the 'artist' name, and "The First Deterrant" as the album title, in a military-ish font

looking through my old files and... found a weird one of a fake album cover I made and I have NO fucking clue what it was I used to pick the name, image and text, but... looking at it now I'm like "fuck this looks punk as hell kinda wtf"

i.imgur.com/d3tNT.jpg like, pretty sure the words might have been from random wiki crawls but... NO idea what the image is from. This was years ago so I have no memory of what spurred this but p. sure it was some thread on a forum.

Surprised at how well the original Commander Keen holds up in terms of how it feels to platform about on it. Despite the movement feeling... floaty??... it feels weirdly responsive and like you have more or less full control. It's pretty intuitive.

New version of Flashpoint is out! Version 9.0, "Glorious Sunset". Get ready for the end of Flash by downloading *all of it* bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/down

The Ultimate archive is now 6x the size of the version I downloaded in 2019. I will probably delete that version and download the "Infinity" launcher, since I don't have half a terabyte of disk space to spare at the moment

Competing software aesthetics within the "open source" umbrella:
- lean, mean, a joy to use. the dream.
- hosted on sourceforge, hasn't updated in 11 years, except to upgrade Boost every few months.
- "customizability", ie preferences screen a giant hell-salad of every conceivable option.
- zero documentation. codebase totally uncommented. are you cool enough to use this? no.
- completely bespoke UI system that manages to work OK even if it sticks out on your desktop and kinda breaks ur brain.

just realized that Gnome's icon for "smartphone" is a Nokia N95
