re: job searching (-)
@NovaSquirrel May I ask which degree you have?
re: job searching (-)
@XerTheSquirrel I have a bachelor of science in computer science and I have a minor in math.
re: job searching (-)
@XerTheSquirrel It's been about half a year and only two companies (out of many applications) have wanted interviews, and those led to nothing, and it's making me feel like I wasted my time going to college.
I've since given up on being able to find a computer science job and having other types of jobs not want me either is really disheartening.
re: job searching (-)
@NovaSquirrel I know the feeling. Where I currently work I pretty got hired because of my hobby project (SquirrelJME) and I had followed the company's CTO on Twitter. She just looked at my Twitter profile and saw that I knew Java and she needed a Java developer, so that is how I got my current job. It was not an immediate thing though, they had another candidate with a far stronger resume compared to mine with no degree and no experience. However they decided to take give me a shot after that first candidate did not fall through. I know when I got the message that someone else had been considered instead I felt really horrible and like a failure. After that they got back to me after a few months since I said if there were any future positions available I would be interested in them. At first I contracted for them, but then in June of 2018 I was offered full time and I took it. But, it has been 7 years since I left college before I got that job and I was searching for like 3-4 years for something, and the thing I always got hit on was having no degree. I know when I started to use Stephanie in my application along with using a feminine voice it got harder for me to get interviews since they would often speak down to me, so that made things rougher in my search. But I am hoping the best for you and I hope you find something.
