@Austin_Dern @claude That makes a lot of sense, and I've always had a lot of trouble with finding groups of people who care about the things I do as much as me. It's especially hard when the need for the community is spurred on by being made uncomfortable in an existing community, so you've gotta find people who not only care lots for the general topic but the sanitized version.
But perhaps reviving something that has simply fallen out of popularity would have more of a chance.
@NovaSquirrel @claude Oh, everybody has trouble finding a group that cares as much about their particular thing as they do. But they can usually find a couple people who are interested at least somewhat. And sharing a thing of interest can be an open, inviting energy that attracts new people.
Reviving something that's fallen out of popularity can work, but it does still require a core group that's going to show off why people should care about this. But nostalgic interest will work for you.
