Because when the big guns say the game ships friday, the game. ships. friday. And suddenly not doing your job well is the only way you get to keep your job. Because your boss is under pressure from the publisher, and the publishers are under pressure from the market, and the market is ALWAYS under pressure.

And that's why your elder scrolls or fallout game isn't that good— not because of a single guy with a mic, but because it turns out that capitalism gives no shits about artistic vision.

Nobody blames the Associate Producer (Mobile Games) position at Bethesda for making an Elder Scrolls mobile game. Nobody blames the random french Engine Programmer who works for Arkane Studios France for the buggy Bethesda engines. You get mad at Todd Howard, because Todd Howard is the guy you see. And when things fuck up, you blame the guy with the microphone and the big ideals.

It really ticks me off when people get mad at one specific aspect of game development for fucking up when in reality the problem with modern game development is that everybody is being pulled in a million directions at once— people are understaffed, underpaid, given minimal time, and forced to prioritize nonsense.

we've like.... literally always had cancel culture. deciding a human being has done bad stuff and we shouldn't associate with them anymore is a normal part of society my dude. it's just getting cancelled for practicing systemic prejudice in combination with the widespread reach of online communication that's new. rich ppl are just pissy you can get cancelled for being a bigoted fuck now

*takes minmaxing and dunks it into the garbage*
*takes the concept of meta play and dunks it into the garbage*
*takes every gamer who whines about people not being "optimal" and dunks them into the garbage*

Games are supposed to be fun, assholes!

It feels like we're living in pockets of comfort and kindness, surrounded by the worst the world has to offer. And it's really easy to just look outside, and become jaded.

But we're still here, and we're still good, and we can get through this one step at a time

@jordyd @starwall Humans continue to defy the gods by striving to become the very rare upright worm, where it is Their will that worms wriggle on the ground or in the sea, we sinfully seek to wriggle from the ground upward towards the sky, shedding more and more of our dog traits as we lose our fur, elongate our bodies, lose our tails which would disrupt our noodle forms, etc.

It is this original sin that originates mankind's continued suffering, but despite this price we continue to strive towards our specie's collective vision for a more perfect self, a more long and round, more noodle-like form....

@jordyd @starwall We're probably around the Dog-Worm line, but honestly? we've strayed awfully close to the Worm side of things, we're just a collection of noodles, our arms and legs? noodles. Our torso, neck, and head abstracted from our limbs? Big noodle. We're just noodles upon noodles, just striving to become worms, but with a few light Dog attributes in there still because we can not yet achieve perfection

i really like the idea of a space setting with FTL travel, but no FTL communications, so you have to send any messages or news on physical courier ships

So um... yeah. Everyone, meet Lavender. She's my headmate.

sometimes its nice to just build on a formula over time, you know? sometimes you can get a good thing going and just build it up over time, instead of having to knock it down and start over every time

After an unexpectedly short detour, I can finally proceed with the Silvie's Mine quest. Yay~
