This is a generalization obviously. FFXIV has a ton of low-level grind mechanics that I could enjoy without ever touching raids. And there are plenty of games that offer raiding gameplay without the pressure of other people. But it's also... different somehow, in a way I can't explain.
Look, I either want high-level tests of mechanical knowledge and skill where I get to grind it out by myself, OR I want low-level vibing out that I can experience with other people without feeling pressured. And I somehow never manage to find either.
It's like when a website bitches at me for using adblock. I will enjoy your content, I will support you monetarily if I feel like it, but I will NOT roll over like a dog so that you can get a few bucks of ad revenue
It makes me irrationally angry when youtubers do the "X% of my viewers aren't subscribed, so hit that like button!" thing. And I get it. You have analytics, youtube is a hellscape, you need to use every trick in the book.
But I have this knee-jerk reaction that if you're going to obsess over that percentage of non-subscribers, then I will GLADLY be the one to crush you by refusing to subscribe
angry politics
Like, I'm basically an anarcho-communist with a lot of fine print, I have no place in this goddamn political climate. The closest guy to my political beliefs dropped out of the primaries literally the day after I voted for him, and even he was a bit of a stretch compared to a hypothetical dream candidate. Now I'm expected to vote, even though Wisconsin is gerrymandered to all fuck and there's no way in hell we're gonna get the electorals. fuck.
The point here about Rent is that there are a handful of queer/poc/high-subversion musicals that have hit the popular culture sphere, and people are far more willing to defend the nostalgic ones (that have aged very poorly) over the newcomers.
It's a bombastic story with twists and turns, the music is memorable enough to hold up the show basically on its own, the choreography is clean and decisive... like, if you can wholeheartedly stan RENT in 2020, then Hamilton should be a no-brainer
If it's possible, it probably exists, and if it exists more than once on Earth alone, it probably exists a LOT.
