People, please start using CamelCase to break apart words in #HashTags.

It makes it easier to read and more #accessible. Single words are OK to keep lowercase, unless they are proper nouns πŸ˜‰

As an instance moderator, it makes it easier to review of you're a #MastoAdmin.

#CamelCaseAllTheHashTags

#Mastodon #HashTag #accessibilty

Please #boost this for visibility and to help improve the lives of many people.

@elan The frustration comes when I do CamelCase, and Mastodon switches it to lowercase, because it recognizes the tag and wants it to match.

Anything we can do about this? Is there some history here I'm not aware of?

Follow

@elan I'm new, so my "history" is less than 4 weeks, and I never Twittered, so hashtags aren't a thing for me - I have to consciously remember to use them. But I have tagged on - HA! I caught it in the act. Screen grab.

@ScottSoCal yeah don't let it auto select, and fix it if it does. It should catch on #Hash

@elan @ScottSoCal Yeah, it sucks. The software presumably knows no English, nek ion alian lingvon.

@elan @ScottSoCal So type it out yourself.

Also remember to follow #Asstodon, because it's such a fortunate rhyme with Mastodon, and nothing is better than a donkey.

@ScottSoCal Hashtags weren't a terribly big thing on Twitter. It's Instagram where you could follow a hashtag like in Mastodon version 4.

@ScottSoCal @elan It's the history of the instance, each hashtag has a canonical capitalization and it's first come first served.

@clacke @ScottSoCal correct this is discussed in the GitHub issue referenced in this thread
