Also, if you're interested in segregation, look into Sundown Laws. They weren't just in the south, they were all over. I worked with a woman who remembered when it was illegal for her to be across the bridge in Kennewick Washington, after the sun went down. Not-white people were all right as gardeners and maids, but they couldn't live there, or spend their off time there.
