Happy Danish Overshoot Day! Today, 28th March, is the date on which Denmark’s demand for ecological resources this year has exceeded what Earth can regenerate before the end of the year.

To celebrate, here’s a bench raised to the height of the floods that 'will be an everyday occurrence if we don’t act’. I snapped the photo very quickly last July before rushing back indoors. It was 34,3°, the hottest ever recorded in Odense. So far.

@CiaraNi

I don't know, but I would guess that the US Overshoot Day happens sometime in the second week of January. Early in the second week.

@ScottSoCal You’re not that early and we are barely a fortnight behind you. Depressingly early in the year, all of us.

@CiaraNi @ScottSoCal The fact that so many 'green' European countries have very early overshoot days is a good reminder of how renewables are often used as added extras to underwrite an unsustainable economy.

Denmark has lots of windfarms, but they are like sails on an oil tanker.

@Loukas @ScottSoCal This is a point we need to remind ourselves of often.
