We're gone from Europe. They don't have the option of doing it again because they already did it once.
I really, really wish people in the US didn't try to valorize post-WW2 Europe. We should demand better of the US.
@imstilljeremy @StillIRise1963 @JRBuckley @SharonGibson3 @Steve I believe Clint Smith argued in his Atlantic article on Holocaust memorialization that it might be *because* Jews are mostly gone that Germany has an easier time admitting guilt. In the US, white people have to live among those we've harmed.

I'm reminded of when a Jewish guy on Twitter talked about how, as a kid in 1950s Germany, he had to politely sit at his friends houses as their parents talked Nazi stuff. People went nuts. A German Jew sitting at tables with Nazis in the 1950s? What a Nazi sympathizer!
It made me think of every time a white person told a Black person it was their fault for not making a bigger deal about racism from family, friends, co-workers.
