@StillIRise1963 Certainly one of them. Online shopping was another. Yeah, it was convenient. Convenient for monopolists. America's decline didn't start with Amazon, but sure has helped decimate cites and towns across America. We don't talk about either. Which is partly why I believe so many young progressives can only talk about human rights and power differentials. It's really all they hear about from thought leaders, today. The Fediverse "might" change that. Might.

People don't think about online shopping that way, though. I went into a local pet supply chain, Petsmart, to get parrot pellets. They were out, I asked a clerk, she told me I could save time by buying it online from their website, and have it delivered to my house. I told her no, doing that tells Petsmart they don't need a local store, they can close it, fire the people working there, just sell online. She looked surprised - she'd never thought of that before.
