Aldean’s song has resonated with ppl who idolize small-towns, but he’s actually legitimizing vigilantism & violence, blaming Black people for crime & more diverse big cities. #DEI can lead to unity, respect & a stronger nation: There’s a reason that Black people still talk about “sundown towns” in the South & Midwest, places that aren’t safe for us to be after dark -it’s precisely bc of a kind of glorification of small-town tribal violence that’s in Aldean’s song & video. washingtonpost.com/opinions/20

It's not just in the south and midwest, it was all over the country.
In Eastern Washington state, the Tri-Cities is Kennewick, Richland, Pasco. Kennewick and Richland were sundown towns, all the "domestics" lived in Pasco, and had to be back there before the sun set, or face arrest.

@ScottSoCal Yes, you’re correct, it happens throughout America. We need to continue to expose the horrific behavior & crimes & work toward eradicating systemic racism.

@ScottSoCal @KimPerales Here's an excellent resource on sundown towns for anyone interested in learning more.

James "Loewen started working on sundown towns in 1999. Having grown up in Illinois, he knew he would do more research in that state than any other, simply owing to his familiarity with it. He anticipated finding maybe 10 sundown towns in Illinois and 50 across the nation. He had no idea." justice.tougaloo.edu/sundown-t
