I don't think it's intended as an insult, it's just that autism isn't "a" thing, it's a wide range of possible things, with or without attendant other things.
I'm autistic, and just looking casually at my life, you might decide to group me with allistics. It's in the details where things get fuzzy. My neighbor's son is autistic and is going to an entirely different school than his siblings, so they can meet his needs.

@ScottSoCal I think in some instances this is correct but I also have heard it used as a euphemism to avoid using Autism. A lot of people do see autism or any other disability as automatically a bad thing, something they would want to avoid or want their loved ones to avoid.

We know that's bs, but sadly, society at large still believes a lot of the stereotypes.
