i think some people have a definition of "good person" that focuses a lot on saying nice things.
but i'm more concerned with actions. giving lip service to things is easy.

I recently read a (fiction) book where one of the characters reflects on the difference between 'nice' and 'kind'.
Nice is what you do when other people are watching. Kind is what you do when no one is watching, and there's nothing in it for you.
I liked that.
