This chimes with me. I evolved (not consciously) a sub-personality who was a showman, a ringmaster in a three-ringed circus, so I looked like a confident, if slightly garrulous, extrovert. To many I looked like an arrogant show-off. This character was incredibly helpful in managing the outside world but was draining. I needed to control so much that I exhausted myself. All the time trying to protect the crippled little boy inside.

I have a personality for Subject Matter Expert/Trainer. He's also very talkative, very confident, almost brash. I can feel the energy draining out, the whole time he's here.

@ScottSoCal @pathfinder @neversosimple @fictionalbutnot @actuallyautistic It’s taken 30 years for somebody to share back with me on that. So glad I found you.

I run one of those types of professional "showman" personalities too - I imagine a lot of us do to get by.

It's highly useful, & the confident competence that comes with it feels empowering while it lasts, but, yeah, it's utterly exhausting. Significant recovery time is required afterwards.
