When do you stop the microwave, toaster oven, alarm clock, etc. to prevent that awful sound?

@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic For my alarm clock, I normally wait until it goes off. Helps my work transitions. Everything else - yeah, mostly it’s *just* before it goes off.

@Momgoth

I got rid of my audible alarm clock by switching the lights in my bedroom to "smart" lights and programming them to simulate a sunrise, starting about 15 minutes before I need to be awake.
It's much more relaxing than being jarred out of sleep by MEH! MEH! MEH!

@actuallyautistic @JeremyMallin @ScottSoCal I love that idea! Did it take you any time to adjust to waking up that way?

@Momgoth

No, no time at all. The lights gradually get brighter, until I wake up naturally.
It did take a few days to fine-tune how long it took me to wake up, and there's still some variability. If I'm in a deep sleep cycle it'll take the full 15 minutes, if I'm in a light or REM sleep cycle, I'll wake up as soon as the lights come on.
