@bike @GTMLosAngeles @autistic.me @actuallyautistic ya, there's definitely a huge correlation between autism and gender. There was a big meta-analysis study done recently that found 15% of autistic people are nonbinary. That's huge!

I feel like the autigender label probably resonates with me. I don't use the label (yet?) because I'm not 100% sure if I'm autistic (waiting on results from my assessment a few weeks ago). But ya, I feel like my lack of understanding implicit social rules majorly shapes my gender identity.

Not having to figure out how boys and girls are each supposed to act would have been a huge relief, because it definitely was hard to figure out what the rules were.

Not having to be a boy (or a girl)... whoa, that would have been a whole new level of wow.

Maybe for me autigender is the not having to act like a boy, but nonbinary is the not having to be one. At any rate, the first one is a nice relief, but the second one .. whoa.

@GTMLosAngeles @PurpleStephyr @bike @autistic.me @actuallyautistic The first one should be standard for everyone, because thereโ€™s as many different ways to be a boy, or a girl, as there are boys & girls. But the 2nd, yeah, whoa!

@Susan60

The rigid policing of how people present to the world has gotten more confusing for me as I've gotten older. I'm male, that's how I'm comfortable presenting, but it doesn't threaten me in any way to see another man in heels/skirt/blouse. Now, knowing the courage it takes to do that, it gives me a lift - yay, well done you.
