@catswhocode i'm told i come across as lecturing, or talking down to people because i know more than them. i really feel bad about that because i absolutely don't mean it that way. i'm trying to share something that brings me great joy, thinking maybe it will bring other people joy too.

@miaoue @catswhocode @actuallyautistic I guess I internalized this as a form of masking at some point, because now I only share like one fact and then follow it up with "I'm a nerd!! I can't help but share" or something like that to let people know they can move on in the convo right away :(

or when I'm teaching an animal we're painting I'll ask the room something like "how big do you think a real owl mouth ACTUALLY is? 😈" To insert my info dumping as a teaching aid lmfao

@james

I may have done the same, because I just don't talk about my special interests. I geek out on my own, and if someone asks I say something minimizing, and clearly designed to cut off more questions.
I have many folders on my personal laptop, filled with stuff, and I have boxes of things in my bedroom closet that pay tribute to former (and maybe future) interests.
