damn, i knew installing GNOME with this fresh install would be a mistake. wanted to make a change up from my usual xfce, but this experience is hot garbage.
going to do another fresh install tomorrow with a different de, any suggestions of a non-tiling wm?
@thurloat LXDE is what ships with Lubuntu and it's pretty decent I think
