I've been studying game dev as a hobby for years but I struggle with the practical stuff.
Making a plan, sticking to it, staying within a reasonable scope, not working myself till burnout... these are all things I've done with poor results and I'm not sure what I can do to prevent further frustration. Any advice?
@SteelWool what is your main problem?
It sounds like you are listing several, let's start with one 🤔
And it also sounds like you are already trying different things and trying again and again and see what works for you. That is a key ingredient I would say =)
@Calined leaving the scoping issues aside, I feel I don't always have a direction to follow.
I typically start by messing around with whatever engine I have available (usually Pico-8 or Godot) or mentally developing an idea in my mind, but I find it difficult to create a development plan and stick to it.
I believe that knowing what to do next and having other tasks to do if I'm stuck with something will help me prevent burnout, but I seem to have awfully poor planning and discipline.
@SteelWool ah ok
Well then it's not the right tool =)
Gotta find something that works for you
Do you know why it didn't work for you?
Maybe a piece of paper or journal works better?
Like a daily or weekly brainstorm on paper what the next step is? 🤔
