Thankfully, there are quite a few legitimate* MMO shards for various games, like Final Fantasy XI, Phantasy Star Online 1 (All versions except Xbox 1+2), Ultima Online, Ragnarok Online, etc. Heck, even an FFXIVv1 shard was in development and managed to get to walkabout status at one point. (Don't know if it's progressed further...)

*real, possibly open-source, and neither a virus nor AV-unfriendly, though still probably illegal
