At least two of my other major OCs are hellhounds. When I made them, I had no idea of the design of many furry hellhounds tying back to SL and then in turn back to a lapfox OC.
My partner helped me build a world around them. To me, they exist independently of the origins I was unaware of.
Yet: I know I've been preemptively blocked just for having them. They cast ripples of that association, even if I don't have it myself.

I feel like LOTS of people have dog characters. I really don't think this is quite the problem you're worried it is, love.

I don't think you're entirely in control of associations other people hold. I feel maybe it'd be different if it a personal species made by someone bad rather than sort of a stock fantasy species. That person didn't in any way create hellhounds.
