Quake II: Call of the Machine is a great addition to the 2023 remaster of Quake II.
It's basically "What if MachineGames made their own version of Arcane Dimensions, but for Quake II?"
That plus having levels that are slaughtermaps that feel fun to play helps too.
I never thought I'd be down for slaughter maps in Quake II after suffering them in one of the unofficial expansions, Juggernaut for Quake II.
But it turns out you just need good levels to make those fun rather than the... absolute dredge of Juggernaut's.
@TonicBH I guess there's not much way Juggernaut could have gone right, being developed as a new company's first product, and being published by the people responsible for... eXtreme PaintBrawl.
@wildweasel yeah, I think even when I wrote my article last year I was very much "Oh this isn't gonna end well."
