so uh, I'm not the only one who got my notifications spammed with transphobic death threats from different servers, right?

it's making me even more disillusioned about the "fediverse". is there any sort of plan for cross-instance moderation that isn't "hope it doesn't happen too much"?

(if you say fediblock you are in denial)

like any service capable of operating on the Internet should see someone @-ing 100 people they've never interacted with before, and say, nah, this isn't going to happen.

oh there's a federation reason that that's impossible? okay! that's why federation is fucking stupid!

@arborelia push report button. If user is asshole, user gets banned. If instance is asshole, instance gets banned. That's it.

Or get on a whitelist server like awoo.

@Doephin like maybe slow down before you reply with an existing feature that isn't doing the job!

stop and think about what the person you're replying to actually said!

@arborelia Yikes, I'm so sorry. I have not been on the receiving end of anything like that here, but that sounds horrible.

@arborelia Hi! That was weird. Also made me scratch my head how to go forward. Did you contact anyone on the servers the threats where coming from? As far as I could see those spam toots vanished from my notifications but were still up a few hours after. Also, is this fascists testing the fediverses response to see how far they can get with things like that?

@r4_ni contacting their servers would be a bad idea, given they are probably the admins. that would just let them know they have a live target.

and yeah they can get pretty far given the only inter-server moderation tool is fediblock, which is too little too late!

@arborelia That is sort of what I thought would be on of the likely reasons why they are doing this. And then its probably a question how much effort/resources they could put into ie. doxxing and stuff.
