Please, for the love of whatever deity you pray to, **DO NOT** shoot your laptop when you're done with it! You have no idea where the battery is, it's a huge hidden target you _will_ hit & set on fire, & lithium fires are no joke! It's not a matter of if but when it catches fire.
Adding insult to your gunshot injury, the data you're _trying_ to destroy is a tiny hidden target you will _miss!_
So congrats on starting a delayed fire that can be traced back to you.

I've put bullets through a dead laptop, Texas style, precisely once. Pulling the battery and the hard drive beforehand was an obvious step to make cleaning up afterwards easier.

@knightly666 It's not as obvious as it should be, though. Most people don't know where the battery is anymore, since they're no longer removable without tools, and most people don't know what a modern hard drive looks like, or where the important electronics bits are, in the case of SSDs in mostly empty classic laptop form factor HDD boxes.
