computers

I was back on Windows recently, and was reminded of why I hate it: it has a very antagonistic attitude. Try as I might, I was constantly met with Windows Defender going "Stop right there!" It was not a pleasant experience

What was I doing? Well, okay, I may have been trying to crack it, since I'm running an unlicensed version of Win10 Enterprise (shh!), but still. "Action blocked." "File quarantined." Even completely removing the file from my computer and telling me to reboot to get rid of it. All despite me constantly telling it to shut up and get out of my way. God. Fucking. Damn it.

This is one of the things I like about Linux. It does what you fucking tell it to. Sure, it may throw errors from time to time, but they're usually all your fault in one way or another. You fucked up a config file or something. Not the operating system trying to """protect""" you from yourself.

Of course, the relationship I have with my computer is also a reckless one, and not necessarily the one I think everyone should have. After all, Windows was warning me of a worm, and who knows? Maybe that activator was actually malicious. But, at the end of the day, I'm not really concerned. If I break shit, I'll fix it. Whatever. Not a problem.

And Linux lets me break shit. Sure, I may have to spend a good few days cleaning up the debris, but at least it lets me cause that damage in the first place.

And, again, this isn't to say this is the relationship you should have with your computers! If you don't know what you're doing, you could end up causing damage you can't fix! But I do know what I'm doing. And I like my operating system to work under that assumption.

Shitty people, Re: computers

Realizing now that today mightn't be the best day to be going on about this, given that RMS has somehow been given a spot at FSF back. Like, god damn it, how fucking incompetent do you have to be to reinstate that fucker.

It's a good reminder that I still wanna move back over to a BSD, because fuck the GNU project, and now I have one more reason to say so.
