Fun fact: I worldbuild. Not for any particular story. I just like creating worlds, cultures, and languages.

Pepe, /r/frenworld, and "why do Nazis keep appropriating otherwise innocent shit?" rant/miniessay

It's a deliberate strategy of forming (from scratch, or by taking over) innocent-shaped, clearly differentiable, fascist-controlled spaces that they can lure not-yet-fascist people into by

1. tempting them to look with "that's ridiculous, that innocent-looking stuff can't possibly be fascist",

2. tempting them to join with easy-to-enter/-participate, genuine community,

3. and then also sprinkling fascist ideology, often obscured by a layer of layers of symbology/indirection so that it's not immediately visible without investment in the community

Interesting TILs about sumo wrestling

TIL that the top ranking sumo wrestling referees are expected to resign if they make a call that is overturned by the ring judges.

It is customary and expected that their resignation will be refused by the sumo commission and they keep their job, but in rare cases of repeated or especially egregious errors, this resignation is accepted.

If I had to "resign" every time I made a mistake and had to hope my boss would go "Naw we still want you", I'd be a nervous wreck.

Then again I'm hardly best in my field.

Anyone wanna start a really bitter software co-op where we let our disgust at both ourselves for being in tech and the hatred of the megacorps seep into every single bit of marketing material?

A saw a shirt depicting a married couple with the bride happy, the husband sad, and the words "life sentence" above them.

I know it's been asked before, but /are/ the straights okay?

Bad habits I need to break

If I do this to you, I'm really sorry. I'm trying not to act flippant about stuff, I really am.

Bad habits I need to break

Saying "obviously" when I'm trying to explain something to someone who doesn't know about it. Like, gods fucking damn, brain! You're explaining it to them *precisely because it's not obvious*! Stop saying "obviously"!

Extortion, Email Question, Please for the love of God help

@MadestMadness It would be different if you're using anything other than the web client, but Google is still really good about not taking roundabout paths. If what you see looks more like the first image (a spam message I received) and not the second (A message I sent myself from Claws Mail), it's not from you, no matter what client it was sent from.

Extortion, Email Question, Please for the love of God help (no img capt)

@MadestMadness As an example, here's a screenshot of a message I sent to myself.

Extortion, Email Question, Please for the love of God help

@MadestMadness On each message, there should be a menu button next to the reply button. Choose the show original option. What we're basically looking for here is if they're even remotely the same. Gmail doesn't bother with proper headers on messages to yourself. Just a to field, a from field, a subject, a date, and a content type. If it's substantially more complicated on the extortion message, it's not from you, but someone else.

Extortion, Email Question, Please for the love of God help

@MadestMadness Let me add another person saying "the from line is probably spoofed." If you really want to check that, just in case, send an email to yourself. Gmail has a way to view headers (it should be in a little menu on the email itself with an option labeled "View original headers" or something). Compare the headers on both messages. If my suspicion is correct, they shouldn't be the same

We *need* more stories where friendship is portrayed as important and equal, ones *without* making it a competition between friendship and romance where one has to win.

It's sad that TNG is the only example I can think of.
