my hot take on language is that usage is god and strict prescriptivism about grammar, syntax, and slang is cryptofascist bullshit that, frankly, often has a racially-charged subtext meant to marginalize minority dialects in favor of language more rhetorically-useful to those in power

nobody fucking cares if you say 'me and them' or 'they and I' because they mean the exact same goddamn thing. pedantry is the death of creativity

general PSA, not about anything specific:

you don't have to sit and "listen" to everyone online. they are not entitled to your attention. blocking someone on the internet is not telling them to shut up. blocking someone is not censoring them. it is getting up and walking away and you are allowed to do that.

roleplaying as a bad person

@Anarchist_Mallrat I am detached and ironic and outwardly take pleasure in hurting people, which proves I am level-headed and correct

and yet my victims are showing emotions and pain which proves they are just playing the victim

ice cream take

Ice cream with stuff in it (e.g. chocolate chips, oreo pieces) is better than ice cream without.

More texture variety.

With that said...

I'm kidding. I'm not going to start going on about the "things that [I] enjoy authentically."

Alright, quote of the day, direct from an old livestream Adam Neely did with a few other music theory youtubers:
"There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, there's only things that you enjoy authentically."

What is it about political cartoons that makes me want to yell about how stupid they are, even if I agree with them?

Angry FOSS posting, long (again), slack/discord/matrix, lewd metaphor

More "People should invest in a Matrix homeserver" replies to my Slack post.

No, people should invest in making Matrix competitive for the average user with Slack and Discord.

If you look at the options available to you and say "Matrix is clearly superior" and don't think one bit about how there are tradeoffs and for people not you those tradeoffs swing a different way, then the software you work on and support will never go anywhere.

And this is the problem with FOSS: most of its proponents cannot think in any context but what they want and their worldview.

"Shoulda used Matrix!" is not helpful. You have done nothing to help provide people screwed by this change with a plan to migrate out, free their data, make a transition, figure out how to pay for it, overcome the UI/UX shortcomings, move their communities. You've just jacked off in their face about how superior you are.

Shut up and make a doco PR, write a StackScript, write a guide, fix a UI/UX bug, or work on Dendrite so you can run this on a smaller SKU.

You know what? Don't talk to me about FOSS at all until you've committed a significant non-code contribution to a major project. Only then can you understand FOSS needs more than your algorithm tweaks.

Kink-related?

Just kidding, it's a music theory paper!

The FOSSbros are moving in laughing about how if you're still on Slack when this buyout finalizes you deserve what you get.

There's a reason I say "Have a backup" and "Don't rely exclusively on X" instead of "Stop using X": no one with a community on a shaky platform is going to listen to some random poke-furry on the internet yelling at them to stop using it and abandon that community.

Laughing that they deserve what they get is just toxic FOSSbro elitism in another coat.

Hey so, Salesforce just bought Slack. Salesforce has a history of monetizing things they buy in really aggressive manners so I'm expecting some Changes there soon.

If you use Discord, I'll also note that when a thing's main competition has a problem is when companies choose to make Big Moves so don't be shocked if Discord makes major changes or either gets bought themselves very soon.

I've been banging the drum of "Have backups for your communities" for years now, but it's more serious now.

accountability is important!

RT @CMYKGenet@twitter.com

Hey young furries especially, what this person is referring to is called "holding your idols accountable" and dropping popular people who refuse to apologize and do better when they fuck up is a good thing. Unquestionable loyalty is not better than being a "fake follower"
