"we live in capitalism; its power seems inescapable. so did the divine right of kings."
—ursula k. le guin, in her acceptance speech for the national book foundation’s medal for distinguished contribution to american letters, 2014
@aradinfinity it's one of the most hopeful quotes i have
@FuchsiaShock they gave her a platform, so she used it to criticise them. i love her
@autistikai I'm half-way though "The Left Hand of Darkness" and I like it very much. 😊 💖 📘 ✨
Also enjoyed Ursula's authors note at the beginning. It was a well written rant about extrapolist sci-fi prophets and about truth, lies and fiction.
@quirk oof, yeah, her introduction to the left hand of darkness is one of those things i quote all the time. i'd honestly be tempted to say it's better than the book itself
@autistikai thr only reason I'm on the Fedi is that this gets posted about once a day
@anarchiv then i better make sure to boost it regularly
btw her entire speech here is excellent i recommend taking a listen. this video also has the speech by neil gaiman presenting her the award if you're interested in that
