asthma inhalers, ecofascism, vent
The reason this has become a topic in the discourse now is because generic HFA rescue inhalers are now just hitting the market with FDA approval.
That's ecofascism, folks.
Never, ever let environmentalists tell you that "some human lives" are an acceptable cost to pay for the environment because people died the last time they said that and won. That's not abstract.
That's murder.

When CFC inhalers suddenly got replaced by HFA inhaler two things happened:
1) Pharma companies got to disappear their competition in the form of generic CFC inhalers since the FDA and Friends™ decided the new HFA devices could be patented.
2) Rescue inhalers got crappier because HFA doesn't propel albuterol as well as CFC does which means you need more lung power to be able to use your rescue inhaler. Yeah...
So why now?

So back in Ye Olde Days of ~20 years ago asthma inhalers used chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) as a propellant. You know, the same CFCs that made holes in the ozone layer. Bad shit for the environment. So they replaced them with inhalers that used hydrofluoroalkane (HFA).
... and suddenly CFC inhalers disappeared from the market and two things happened:

So apparently there was a big "news" thing a few months ago where a bunch of outlets ran stories about how ~big the carbon footprint is for metered dose inhalers~ as if those inhalers aren't often the only thing standing between actual human beings and preventable death.
Fuck you and fuck your fascist fucking greenhouse gas emissions.
Let me tell you a story 'cuz this ain't the first time this happened:

"PLEASE let this moment radicalize you. Know that there are a handful of billionaires that could make sure people don't need to go to work. The government could put a moratorium on rent, mortgages, student loans. We could nationalize utilities. Capitalism prevents all of this." https://twitter.com/SultanReina/status/1239230205094498309
Thinking about how it's becoming very clear that one of the fundamental problems with our capitalist society is that there is no pause button, on any level. Everything is built around the idea that whatever we are doing, we will keep doing. There's no way to take a break when there is a need for one.
People can't stay home because they have to work to pay bills. Companies can't shut down because they have to pay bills. Economies can't wind down because everything fails if it stops.
