I guess it feels more egregious in Redwall, because the animals aren't just walking talking metaphors (like in Aesop's fables), or mindless drones (like orcs/goblins/demons in a million different series). They have their own personalities, and seem like they should have the free will to choose to be good or bad. But that's not how it works.

@pexl I was reading it when I was in my early to mid-teens, so that aspect ran thin very quickly. I really enjoyed "Martin the Warrior" because it was a ripping yarn, but the black and white morality combined with "all [x] are born evil" turned me off when I tried reading other books. I knew it was for a younger audience and didn't expect deep philosophical discussions, but it definitely made things less fun.

I'm not a furry but I read the shit out of "Martin the Warrior" and drew a book report cover illustrating the final battle in all its glory

@Nine These are all genres and aesthetics I like, was just kind of leery of the implementation. I bought RAD for similar reasons and didn't enjoy it. But it sounds more like Enter the Gungeon in terms of gameplay, which I did enjoy (even tho I suck at it)

Tbh there was a lot a lot a lot of sexualizing of child actors and singers in the 90s.

I think about how that kid from Terminator 2 was more or less openly being abused by his on-set tutor and that was treated like he was a stone cold 13 year old hunk, instead of, you know, horrifying.

Seeing a screenshot from "Hit Me Baby One More Time" just reminds me of how fucking creepy the late 90s were re: Catholic school girls.
