A friend suggested today that it's time for a manifesto and I agree. Another friend in another conversation mentioned that "free software" and "open source" are not relevant terms for what we need. I also agree.
It's time for something new. A new, community-centered ecosystem.
I'm increasingly of the opinion that the way forward for us is to build a dual-purpose Commons: one where our communities can freely partake and share and collaborate and learn and build each other up, while those who seek to profit on their own terms put cold hard cash down.
I'm entirely in favor of building an altruistic Commons where people aren't counting pennies of value at each other to make sure everyone got their exact right share and instead focusing on everyone's needs.
But fuck if a CTO is gonna tell me that's what Rails is doing.
My ex didn't give a shit about paying me money they owed me until 2 years later, when I had a high-paying apprenticeship. They didn't really care when I was homeless though. No wonder I stayed in that relationship, since they're the same as my garbage family.
The best part is, the lies started once I got a good job. When I was literally dumpster diving for food, nobody gave a shit about bothering me.
And before that, during Christmas break...being contacted by my sister about my mom being hospitalized, no details on with what, no messages, then a week later my mom is abruptly fine and nobody has any information on what was going on. If I sound paranoid it's because of shit like this. Absolute garbage people.
A few weeks before that, I was messaged about my cat being sick with literally no details provided. For all I know they could have been lying about that too. I love my shitty gaslighting family.
Then they wonder why I avoid the hell out of them.
Idk maybe because I don't want to get involved in miserable amounts of unnecessary and absurd drama
Like my sister getting married...in a month...but the date isn't set yet...and it wasn't mentioned to who...ok. That sounds real.
@melissasage followup: is godzilla the largest cryptid
Double followup: is god a cryptid
@melissasage
- supernatural abilities
- many conflicting eyewitness reports but nothing confirmable
- frequently found in natural settings
- claims of government conspiracies to hide or shut it down

I'm in tech and it feels weird.
