"... [Fra Savonarola's] attempt to root out sodomy gained him many enemies. Organized groups of youths demonstrated against his measures, interrupted his sermons, and attacked his followers, the 'reformed' boys whom he had recruited in an attempt to protect them from the enticements of older sodomites. [...]
During his Ascension Day sermon on May 4, 1497, bands of youths rioted and the riot became a revolt against everything the friar syood for. The taverns reopened, men gambled in public, and it is said that a high public official gleefully declared, 'Thank God now we can sodomize again.' In June Savonarola was excommunicated by Pope Alexander VI and arrested. On May 23, 1498, on the platform to which he had condemned so many, Savonarola was himself hanged and burned. As the executioner was preparing to burn the lifeless corpse, [...] a citizen of Florence seized a torch and lit the flame, crying, 'The one who wanted me to burn is now himself put to the flames.'"

https://pastebin.com/rjhZrzpu if anyone is curious about why i call myself a python war criminal
this is a single python expression (you could stick it, without the comments, into an eval statement and it'd work)! it is also a valid python program. in fact, it's a tiny video game
the source is like 1.3kb when you remove all the newlines and syntactically unnecessary spaces. i might try to golf it down further someday
Over at https://www.twitch.tv/gregoryaveryweir right now, @gregoryaveryweir is talking about the history of Flash games and the Flash game industry. It's good stuff.
toxicity and community
Learned an interesting thing today. An important task in managing a community is to watch for toxic voices dominating the space. Repeatedly, if you remove toxic elements, even if they're your most active community members, you will see other people start being more active.
It's about psychological safety. Giving people the experience of feeling safe is vital to creating a space where everyone feels safe to communicate.
Did you know that Brendan McCarthy, an artist and designer known for Judge Dredd, TMNT & Mad Max: Fury Road was the art director for ReBoot?
And did you know that Bad Bob - episode S02E04 of ReBoot - is cited as an early inspiration for Fury Road?
Well, I sure didn't!
Also, as much as I love the old show I would have been so much happier if it looked more like these sketches because woah just look at this stuff
