from 128 instruments to over 600, and so many controllers and parameters

@Felthry the only problem is midis made with XG in mind sound absolutely terrible on a typical GM synth

@azushark Right, I would assume the extensions get completely ignored

or is this that thing you sometimes get in midis where everything is a piano for some reason?

@Felthry well, everything being piano is typically just data for which presets to use being corrupted

this is more "oh that's the wrong preset" or "wow this midi sucks how could it possibly sound any better?"

@azushark ah, I just know we've come across plenty of midis where everything is piano and the instrument names are mojibake, so I was guessing those might be related

@azushark It always kind of mystified us because we still have noidea how that happened
