"we committed a genocide in the past that's why we have to support a country doing a genocide now"

don't be fooled, it's an attempt at whitewashing themselves without actually making an attempt at correcting the damage. so many houses that were seized from jews back then are to this day owned by nazi descendants, even if there are living descendants of the original owners. the far right is on the rise and the state is doing precisely nothing about it, major parties are even making concessions to them. and they still support genocide.

ironically, the german culture of remembrance is often enough used as a way to distract from the evils we're doing today. "we were bad back then, but we're good now and we're unable to be wrong because we were already wrong twice and we've learned from it" or whatever. narcissistic self loathing

@lizzy
Yep, that’s Brits too. And prob americans, idk

@MxVerda @lizzy nah Americans for the most part believe that as a country and government we have never done any wrong and are the last bastion of democracy here to bring it to the rest of the world. You can very much see it in the way people talk about trump and how if he was gone America wouldn't be fascist anymore. And before him it was all liberal paradise. And sure slavery happened but that was so long ago it doesn't count and was it really all that bad.

@MxVerda @lizzy there are of course some people who lean a bit more towards the idea we were once bad and are now good and people who can see the reality of this colonialist eugenics experiment. But those are fewer and far between.
