After several Linux Mint installs with no outstanding issues, this last one, an HP DragonFly still has an issue with low and bad quality audio.

Sadly, it seems like a kernel issue. So either wait for a future kernel that fixes it. Or try to find a patch, and compile it myself and I'm not sure I wanna go into that rabbit hole anytime soon.

@afreytes this is the worst I had a whole thing with having to install cachyos kernel on Fedora recently. Because it would have saved me a huge headache a couple times, you do have "linux-firmware" installed right?
