“what if it’s not on streaming?” it’s on my local server

“what happens when spotify stops existing” it’s on my local server

“what if your hard drive dies” it’s got parity. i can just restore it (and I have off-site backups!)

physical media is great but having digital isn’t inherently worse, and a lot of the perceived benefits of physical media are really only relevant if you don’t have a robust digital solution in place

i love CDs but you’re gonna have to do some real work to convince me they’re more convenient than my unraid box

Oh, I dunno, maybe because reducing trans men and transmasculine folks to a dehumanising three letter initialism like fucking TERFs do means that not many of them actually want to speak to you?

Because the trans guys I know and follow are painfully aware of transmisogyny, and talk about it way more than I ever do. I see transmascs tying themselves in knots trying not to offend brittle transfems as they speak about their own experiences and battles.

Crying about "the invisibility of transmisogyny" the minute the trans community dares to talk about transmasc or enby issues is really telling about how you expect the narrative to always and only centre you.

I want to stop hearing bickering about who has it fucking worst. I want to hear trans stories whatever gender you were assigned at birth, however you identify now, whatever other privileges or oppressions you have. I want to see things from so many different trans viewpoints.

Listening to someone else's story is not fucking oppression.

Phone phreaks generally hated the telephone company as an institution because they were a rip off. While they loved the technology they hated the corporation. Today I feel the same way about Google and YouTube. As far as I am concerned it’s ok to rip off YouTube, it’s even better to run ad blockers.

Sometimes objections to anarchist policies feel like if you were designing roads and said "we'll put up a red sign to tell people to stop and check for incoming traffic" and someone said "ohhhhh so EVERYONE is just gonna listen to the sign voluntarily? dont be utopian, we need an armed guard at every crossing to ensure compliance." Like the baseline assumption is that people in your society will be deliberately non-compliant for unclear reasons always, and this is only a problem for anarchists. Otherwise it's totally possible to force a social order on an unruly populace without fomenting any large rebellions

Hot take: the most valuable aspect of the fedi is not AP or any protocol level stuff, but the premise that people build communication and sharing software and infrastructure that's entirely non-capitalist in nature and designed to interoperate for the benefit of the users, who own all their data and aren't licensing or donating it to any platform.
