Uh oh I think I'm developing a new interest™ in #amateurradio. Its so expensive, but packet radio🤩
Agreed that Meta's changes are troubling and concerning. So I would strongly urge you and any instance admin exposing their users to the harassment there to reconsider their alignment with Threads and defederate now .
That's expecially for you and mastodon.social. Think about the message that you're sending: "Instead of proactively protecting people on this instance, we'll wait for you to be harassed and then take action on individual harassers. And, we'll make that the default for new Mastodon users!"
There's a huge opportunity for Mastodon here if you take a courageous position. So please do!

Im writing this because I’m angry. Actually more than that, I’m 🤬 livid.
I’m an A&E reg with 9+ years experience in A&E both here and overseas. This morning was the first time EVER that I cried 😢 in my car after a shift.
I was on nights over this New Years period, but New Year was not the issue, every shift is like this now. (1/11)
After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances
(mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social)
The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse
I just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' here
On all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instances
Threads will lose over 13K total
In certain circles people tend to cite the cognitive impact of repeated COVID infections as an explanation for the rise in popularity of right wing and nationalist extremism
But, neurological issues with progressive cognitive decline are—terrifyingly—not too uncommon in my family tree and I can tell you this:
Unkindness is not a symptom unless the person was fundamentally unkind in the first place
You can’t blame people’s cruelty on a virus
for what it’s worth, some of the nerds here do shower, at least I do

Folks, there are multiple reports about Fediverse data being used by AI companies like OpenAI. This puts vulnerable people at risk apart from everyone else. They build profiles about you, which can be used to deny you certain services because governments or influential people are now in charge. Server admins must block all AI bots and data center ranges to protect users. I’m not sure making your account private is safe or not. Please be safe, these are dangers times for privacy and safety.
“We're also not currently at the stage where resistance fighters are most necessary.”
presumably the person who wrote this are white.
we Black and Indigenous people have been at this point forever, but especially, since the Patriot Act. we just don't have the numbers.
lynchings by police sky rocketed after the Patriot Act was passed and what did white folks do?
ask for more cops.
white people's REFUSAL to see themselves in the faces of BIPOC lynched by police is gonna get us all killed.
