People following me on here because of my objectively awesome and correct takes who are then shocked and appalled to discover that I an anarchist and that I genuinely and truly advocate the abolition of the state have forgotten the “objectively awesome and correct” part.

No, covid did not teach me that online conferences are just not working. It taught me that 2/3rds of all conferences could be fully online (though one still needs to think about best structure for them and not just transplant them without any adaptation) - and the remaining third needs to focus even more on interaction (unconferences, small workshops, hackatons...) and not the usual talks.

Chemists often complain the public mistakenly thinks chemicals=evil

But when you see the self-described "chemical industry" fighting reasonable regulation of 1000s of substances they make but don't explain to the public, many of which *do* spread invisibly and cause harm, I think this is on them.

I hear so many voicing concerns over Trump policies, saying "they haven't thought it through", "it will have negative consequences", "so many people will get hurt", etc.

It is the other way around:

They have thought it through, and the cruelty is not an unforeseen side effect — it is the objective.

You do not round up 238 Venezuelans, deport them to a foreign prison facility and shave them bold on camera by accident.

You do so too spread fear.

The attack on DEI in higher Ed would not be as intense as it is if a group other than Black women were the most educated demographic in the country.
