Atento @Ruymotxo ! Mire la destreza y aerodinamia de este muchacho bajo el agua.

I see the same kind of criticism aimed at Asahi Linux and Chrultrabook, "Why bother supporting Linux on this hardware, just stop buying bad laptops"

Not supporting Linux on Apple Silicon or Chromebooks, won't at all slow down the sales of these devices, but what it does do is give these devices the ability to have a second life once they've gone EOL saving at least some of them from going straight into e-waste

"Before 1914, the earth had belonged to all. People went where they wished and stayed as long as they pleased. There were no permits, no visas, and it always gives me pleasure to astonish the young by telling them that before 1914, I travelled from Europe to India and America without a passport and without ever having seen one."

-Stefan Zweig

Borders as we know them are a recent concoction.

The passport system as we know it dates to the First World War. ICE was founded in 2003 as part of the so-called "War on Terror," a disaster for freedom in every way.

These institutions are neither timeless nor beneficial nor inevitable.

If you grow english ivy on Turtle Island, even indoors and even if you promise to "keep it contained", what you're really doing is signing me up to spend my whole weekend on my hands and knees doing backbreaking labour instead of what I really want to be doing which is bullying local police officers

Re Microsoft win 10 machines.

Don't believe Microsoft

"because they can’t be upgraded to a supported OS there will not be the normal secondary market for those buying new hardware. This means there’s no boon for charities or other good causes, and instead this is a recycling or landfill choice.

This is criminal.

Recycle to Linux.

🧘🏻 folks have been out here constructing an alternate version of reality to avoid thinking about the amount of people they have personally infected with SARSCoV2.

🙋🏻 folks have been indubitably out here, relieved that they "never get sick," without recalling the original reason they were told to wear masks (the silent spread).

🤸🏻 folks have really just been astonishingly out here, blaming other people for not avoiding them if they do happen to be SARSing up the air everywhere they go.

🕺🏻 folks have been stunningly, embarrassingly, antisocially out here, entitled to a twisted inversion of public health -- a mockery of consent in the form of an inverted notion of bodily autonomy -- that does not, cannot, and will not ever apply to infectious disease

Weekend #Plankton #Factoid 🦠🦐
With spring 🌱 upon us in the northern hemisphere, it is the time for the spring bloom in many lakes and oceans. To grow, #phytoplankton require #nutrients and #light, so start reproducing rapidly due to an abundance of nutrients mixed in the water column and increased light intensity 🌞. Zooplankton grazers have yet to increase, and warming conditions help to retain algae near the surface euphotic zone via stratification.

The US constitution was drafted by a cabal of wealthy slavers and landed aristocrats who repeatedly announced “we hate democracy because poor people might vote to not be exploited by us anymore” and crafted a political system to ensure their perpetual class rule and people are really unsure how the US could have ended up in the situation it’s in now.

today I set all the git repositories on my personal forgejo server to private because llm crawlers were thrashing my server

when you ask chatgpt a silly question to see the silly answer, or prompt midjourney or whatever for a funny image, or use copilot or claude to vibe code, you are complicit in this

Server processes, which provide for a variety of services available with UNIX systems are often referred to as "daemons," as they attempt to do work invisibly. This is a play on Maxwell's daemon, who would merrily put hot molecules in one box and cool molecules in another box, thus (?) violating the Second Law of Thermodynamics. (The proof fails when the daemon acquires so much energy in rapid collisions from highly vibrating molecules that it must radiate the energy as heat, thus perturbing the system. See Feynman's Lectures on Physics, Volume 1, for more information. You just can't get something for nothing, can you?)
