Recommendations for Linux software please.

Is there a package out there that lets me create a simple menu system with chunky buttons suitable for a touch screen that can launch bash commands or shell scripts?

I would do this with html pages and a web browser, but Firefox (understandably) won't let me run shell scripts from a link - unless I am missing something?

My DuckDuckGo-Fu is letting me down. Searching for touch screen menu just gives me results for McDonalds type devices :-/
