I would say taking a gap year to sort things out is a good idea. Not sure how others feel about this but academic environments to me is quite toxic in general and can bring out some of the worst things in you. But I guess I stay cuz I really can't imagine doing anything else. It's a lot of challenges but also a lot of opportunities. Plus I got an excuse to stay as far as I can from my abusive family.
