@starwall every twitter exodus changes the fedi, in the end we will have to see what remains and how the fedi changes people in return.

Id love if the fedi could stay just like it was in 2016 but I think that its best if everyone gets the chance to experience it.

@starwall I was on GnuSocial before mastodon was first released :> I think I joined the fedi in early 2015

@starwall haha thanks.

Ive seen a lot of migrations, and the fedi does change with each one, but i have faith that what the fediverse has to offer is still a force for good. theres always a synthesis, where the fedi in turn changes the people that migrated to it.

Also maybe it just took this long for all the shiny to wear off.

@starwall haha 3 more years, and then we will all switch protocols, the software will be different, and will still be doing the same stuff.

I hope it can survive the test of time instead of getting filled up by reactionaries.

@danishcookies @starwall

interesting thing about that: reactionaries were already on the fedi, and there are huge swaths of reactionary mastodon instances (I have a copy of my blocklist pinned, check it out).

Thank your admin for culling toxic instances!

@the_gayest_doggo
They most certainly did help a lot. Still there are plenty of instances that gained traction and pass themselves as "progressive" while cannibalizing queer people through gatekeeping (honey.church, witches.live) or simply turn a blind eye to it (berries.space).

What is scary here is that there are now queer people on the fediverse who are even afraid of silencing these reactionaries as they feel their wellbeing is not supported by the community and thus, the community might turn on them. I will absolutely not stand for that.
