CW: pet health

My big beautiful boy boa Sebastian has left us. He was old, in his late 20s, and he'd been acting depressed since his mate died. (Seriously, I know I shouldn't attribute human emotions, but he acted as if he was pining for her).

It's a sad day as he was the last of our pets, and with me ill, we're not likely to get any others.

@deadrose Aaah! We may know that day will eventually come, but it definitely doesn't make it any easier. Gods know, those days have remained with me ever since.

(Even aside from all the moving making sharing my home with non-human companions impractical, that foreknowledge has, I admit, always deterred me)

re: CW: pet health

@porsupah I've had pets any time I was even halfway settled & living in a place that would allow them. I even bred fancy mice for a while, sweet little satin-coated longhaired balls of floof. I've had reef tanks, iguanas, hedgehogs, and all manner of creatures.

re: CW: pet health

@deadrose Aa! Mice are wonderful. ^_^ (Rats too) Even hedgehogs? Now that's unusual. I can imagine them being quite mellow sorts.

re: CW: pet health

@porsupah Mine wasn't very mellow as she'd never really been a pet, she was a retired breeder that I took in. But I gave her a happy home with good food and a running wheel for her last year or so. I was hopelessly uncreative and just called her "Tiggy".

@deadrose

Looks like he's actually alive after all, and was just exceptionally lethargic (possibly due to shedding).

He's definitely not nearly as active as he used to be before Priscilla died, though; and is a very old age for a snek of his species.
