OMG, #Zoom may have polished their privacy policy a bit amid all the uproar, but it’s still defensive as hell and sharply contrasts to the usual surveillance-capitalist sweet-talk (CapsLock emphasis mine):
“Zoom does use certain standard advertising tools (...) which (...) send personal data to the tool providers, such as Google. This is not a “sale” of your data in the sense that most of us use the word sale. (...) It is important to know that ADVERTISING PROGRAMS HAVE ALWAYS WORKED THIS WAY.”
Compare this to this excerpt from “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism” by Shoshana Zuboff:
“...commercial surveillance is (…) an UNPRECEDENTED MARKET FORM, an original solution (...) through which a new asset class is created on the cheap and converted to revenue. Surveillance is the path to profit that overrides “we the people,” taking our decision rights without permission and even when we say “no.”
Jesus, #Zoom, most of _us_ would recommend to own👏 your👏 shit👏 and get over it.
