is it reasonable to file a radar for just how fuckin cool a new feature is?

@ticky also i definitely filed one to complain about 3D touch

@tom @ticky imo it was already plenty fucked, how are they making it worse?

@noiob @ticky by replacing it with long presses in a lot of instances which feels horrible

@tom @ticky isn't that just because they wanna phase it out? The XR doesn't even have it

@tom @noiob @ticky i kind of understand why they're doing it, apparently people didn't use it that much and it was annoying to have to hold down your thumb to see a menu anyway instead of just having it stay there when you release it4

@sc @tom @noiob you could just swipe! the options weren’t under your finger! it was really nice!

I believe the real resons are that it doesn’t work with anything but OLED, and possibly doesn’t work on very large (iPad sized) screens due to the flex tolerances involved.

@ticky @sc @tom oh! that makes a lot of sense, I didn't know it didn't work on LCDs. I love the same tech on my Macbook trackpad (even though I don't use it much specifically, it's just cool to be able to set the force it requires and the "silent mode"

@noiob @sc @tom yeah it’s neat! I think it only works on OLEDs because they can bake the OLEDs into the same glass panel that you press on, whereas LCD can’t be fused in the same way. Probably doable but risks you also pressing on the LCD and so probably requires a bigger air gap, and even bigger still on tablets.

Follow

@ticky @noiob @sc @tom 3D touch has been a thing since the iPhone 6s and as far as I remember no one ever complained about an air gap on that or the iPhone 7 and 8
It's money likely literally just because it will save them money not going it and that not many people use it anyway
