I wonder if, for Dark Souls 2, they came up with the enemy despawn mechanic first and thought “well if they eventually despawn we can put them in the worst locations possible” OR if they came up with the despawn SECOND because they said “wow we put enemies in absolutely horrible places that no one wants to bother with, let’s ‘balance’ it by making the enemies despawn after 15 times”
