An Americano is espresso and you add more water to it after to help dilute it.
So you have your shots already and your pour it over a cup full of hot water. It's a way to drink espresso but it's a bit weaker tasting and it's easier to sip over time.
For iced americano we do espresso, pour it over a cup of could water, and shake that with ice. The extra water helps the espresso flavor hold up better over ice.

I had someone do something similar at Starbucks with a mobile order
His order was "iced Americano, no water, add extra while milk". He ordered an iced latte but it's cheaper to order it in a roundabout way like that. I don't blame him though, that's definitely a problem with the Sbux mobile app

@maple we generally only serve our espresso one way: hot, and in a small demitasse to stay in the store
This person wanted some espresso on ice which we don't do (1 because it just doesn't taste good straight up over ice and 2 because people will just fill it up with milk and make their own "latte")
Apparently they tried to like "trick" the barista by asking for an iced Americano but to not add water which is like......no, that's not how that works ya can't just order it like that

This is still my favorite by far
